Business Members
(Voting & Leadership Eligible)
Business membership is open to for-profit businesses operating in or serving the Rusk area, including:
- Brick-and-mortar businesses
- Home-based businesses
- Contractors & trades
- Professionals & service providers
- Entrepreneurs & startups
Proof of Business Required
All Business Members must provide proof of operating as a legitimate business under their own name, such as:
✔ A filing with the Texas Secretary of State
✔ A professional license issued by a Texas agency
✔ A Texas Sales Tax Permit
Documentation must match the business name used publicly.
Only Business Members may:
- Vote on organizational matters
- Serve on the Board of Directors
- Hold officer positions
- Represent Rusk Area Merchants as a business entity
This ensures that decisions affecting commerce are made by those directly engaged in commerce.
Community Members
(Supporters & Participants)
Individuals who are not operating a business may join as Community Members.
Community Members:
✔ May participate in events and programs
✔ May support campaigns and initiatives
✔ May be listed as supporters (optional)
✔ May volunteer or assist committees
However, Community Members:
✘ May not vote on business matters
✘ May not serve on the Board of Directors
✘ May not represent an entity or business
✘ May not hold officer roles
This keeps leadership business-driven while welcoming public support.
